CF card problems/solution

Post by Jokeyman123 »

I often switch out CF cards between my 2 8HDs, and I have had problems with the one CF card slot-cards do not fit in it unless it is exactly right, and even then, I think I bent pins inside my older *HD-and d*****t, I will have to disassemble this one again. So in frustration, I came up with this nifty little adapter.

Notice that many of these adapters have the SD card inserted in the side of the CF card adapter-which defeats my purpose, as I'd still have to remove and insert the CF card just to get to the SD card. This one has the slot in back. I can remove and insert the SD cards and leave the finicky delicate and very breakable CF card slot intact. This has been a nasty problem, I actually shorted something with one of my metal-cased CF cards somehow, and literally smoke came out before I powered everything down immediately. Seems like no harm was done (not sure though) but this happened once before (a short a puff of smoke at the CF card slot) in this old rather shop-worn beat-up Fusion which may be why this CF card slot is not physically right. and I am OCD careful about things, a word to the wise if you swap out your CF cards alot. 2 4GB SD cards and that should solve this problem. There are also Cf card extender cables-used for tchnicians/test purposes I imagine, but are very costly, and would only cause more clutter.

The mainboard from Keyboard Kountry is arriving today. This might be the solution for this foobar serial number problem, and also the now defunct CF card slot. I might get in touch with Dekatronix, a tech company that restored my RM-1X Yamaha, to see if they might try to repair this burned out CF card slot. I also just found this....

Alex is the engineer who created the firmware for the Fusion, at least according to the Fusion's screen credits. Looking at his credentials, I think this is the right person. Looks like he is located in Bulgaria now though, so I have no idea if this is another dead end. Might try anyway-I still wonder, if the firmware can be opened up, possibly be re-programmed. Maybe he would know something we don't know. However, he also worked (or works now) for InMusic, so the ever present copyright issues might prevent him from doing anything anyway.
