Moving banks-with care

Post by Jokeyman123 »

I'm pretty sure parametric had warned about this a long time ago here, but it slipped what's left of my mind I guess.

I had the unfortunate audacity to shift my user bank and bank 5 closer to the top of the bank order, using the internal bank shift function in the Fusion-there is such a thing, I'm sorry I found it. Now several of my songs are looking for my pre-arranged programs in the places where those banks were, and aren't anymore. My dumbness....should have known this was going to happen. What's really odd-when I first select one of these sequenced arrangements-the correct name of each program is still there, but since the track has the control changes for the original bank and program number-boing-it goes to where it is supposed to, but my bank isn't there anymore so it uses the sounds in the bank that took its place.

Ah well-easy enough to fix-but it caught me-i guess I thought (wrongly) that using the internal bank re-arranging would not do this, but it did. The solution is to see if I still have a record of where my banks were originally. I think I do on my computer's backup volume, hopefully it is just a matter of putting these back where they were, but will take a bit of experimenting to see if i can undo the damage. Fortunately I only re-arranged 2 banks, but one of them was my user bank, which I used for alot of my arrangements. If i were on a professional production timeline, this would be not so good....live and learn.

PS-changed the title

As I posted a long time ago in a place far far away you can copy programs to other folders you create for gigging or recording a mix, but all other files must remain in their original folder in order for everything to be located & referenced by the program in order to function properly :)

Re: Moving banks-understanding banks

I understand the folder/file structure of the Fusion completely-its the bank shifting that threw me off-and this works fine, as long as I don't have to worry about sequencer tracks that apparently still look for where my banks were, and those banks are now shifted to a different bank location. Makes me wonder how older users of the Fusion managed with the software that shifts entire banks around. For live playing of individual sounds its not a problem. Song/sequencer tracks retain the bank and program change messages at the beginning of each track, so if that bank is now in a different location-the song track will still reference whatever individual sounds are in the bank space thatnow has taken the place of the bank I moved, it cannot find where the bank has been moved.

I was in particular trying to get the preset bank 5 closer to the other 4 factory preset banks which I did-but switching that bank around does not work with multi-track arrangements that are still looking for the original bank locations. I did not think this would create a problem, but it did. As long as i was using sound programs from the original factory preset banks-1,2,3 and 4 for multi-track arrangements there was no problem like this-because the factory preset banks are "hard-wired", these cannot be moved to a different bank location, are always at the top of the order of banks.
