New to Fusion (yesterday!). Problem of noisy keys

Post by pablofcid »

Hello everyone. This is Pablo, from Spain. Finally I got an 8HD. Yesterday it was my first 'power on' with it. Really loved the sound, and the features are impressive.
But (please help if you can give some advice) I found that many of the keys produce a loud physical noise when released. Seems that the counterweights or other moving parts in the those keys are noticiably hitting something inside there. The unit seems not damaged, nor curved, etc, but still presents this annoying noise.
Any one experiences the same and (most of all) knows of a remedy?
I can still get it back to the seller and get one from a second seller (but wouldn't like to if I can fix the one who already got). Should the problem just be one of a missing or faulty 'feltbed' I would be able to open it and find a solution. But I don't wan't to go and open it without being reasonable sure that it is only something like that that makes sense (becuase I can't return it if open).

Regards

Some possible solutions in other posts

For those who may suffer the same problema, I just found very inspiring information in some posts. I will check with my 8HD and report back, but thanks on advance for all those who actively give so much information in the following posts, all deailing with physical noises coming from playing/releasing the keys.

Hi Pablo, - and welcome to the forum . . .

You will find that this has been discussed in the forum at some length.

I would suggest that it indicates that your Fusion has been opened at some stage which is no cause for concern. I have opened mine many times for various reasons.

What I will say, is that putting it back together needs care to make sure everything is seated correctly.

In your case, if you SLACKEN OFF the screws that secure the keybed, and move it slightly - usually towards the back of the synth - and retighten the screws, you might find that fixes it.

The LEFT plastic "END" is more difficult to get seated correctly than the RIGHT one, I have found.

Just go at it slowly and it should be fine.

You might find this useful . . . .

Hello. I just signed up. I had this issue with my 6hd. I fixed it. here how.
I don't know if the fix works for the 8hd but.
On each end in the front, where the plastic end piece overlaps onto the part which runs under the end of the keys, you can shim it with a tiny piece of Popsicle stick. Small. Don't place it under too far. Loosen the side end screws on the bottom. and the next one a bit. Lift up to make a little gap, and place the little piece of stick under it. Not in far. Like 3/16" in, but have it as wide as the plastic overlap. This tilts it a bit so the back of the keys do not hit the metal top casing. Tighten the under screws. And from then on the key backs can come up a bit far if you push after touch too hard. No need to bare down that hard. enough and no more. don't know what would happen if anything if you did. I also vented mine so it would not get so hot. 8)
Worked on my 6hd. She is a gem now!
