1) How do I save my little "melodies" in mp3 format to an external device? Can I first save them locally, and then export the sound file to the CF card slot or to an external drive using the USB connection?
2) How do I save the parameter settings associated with my melodies? I'd like to export the settings and then later re-import them to recreate the same sounds.
Hi there drbeamer,
Good hints from Jesse there. You are indeed in for a good time. The Fusion is very deep and very capable.
Go at it slow and easy. Once you figure out how the Fusion does things, how the menuing system works and the sector wheel and the <inc> and <dec> buttons interact - it will become clearer.
As you browse the presets, youl'll see how the <Bank> system works - A 1-8, B 1-8 etc . . .
When you want to save your own stuff, look for a Bank called <User> (may already be there), or make a Bank called <My Bank> or whatever . . .
You'll see the structure is the same as the Preset Banks, except most will be "empty" and have a " " in the display.
Use the sector wheel to navigate to one with " " and there save your Song . . . There's a rename option too.
It's all much easier to do that to describe . . . just a matter of doing things in the right order. You'll soon learn how it works.
I imagine mostly your songs will be Fusion sounds (initially)? After these are saved to <User> or <My Bank>, you just press <Song> and browse to that bank and they will be there - and will load in just as you left them . . . .
There is an option to export the song which will create an .afn file. These can be renamed to .mid (outside the Fusion) and will be recognised as midi files (Type 1) by a DAW and imported - containing all the synth tracks your song had . . . .
This is handy for fine tuning the midi data, but, played back in a DAW, will NOT be using the Fusion's Sounds . . . .
For this reason I tend to record each track out of the Fusion separately as Audio and THEN import those to a DAW (So you get the original Fusion Programs.
This, I do by going into the <Mixer> and Soloing each track in turn, and then recording it through the S/PDif socket on the back of the Fusion - to a digital recorder I have. This makes a .wav file - which I use . .
Long winded, but it works.
The Fusion CAN make an audio of the complete song as a 24bit 44.1Khz .wav file, but all tracks are merged, so you'd need to then convert to .mp3, with "Audacity" (for instance) . . . .
UNLIKE more recent Boards, the Fusion's USB connection ONLY allows the Fusion to appear as an external HD to the Computer for adding new banks and general housekeeping (Backing up the Fusion_HD . . .

)
There is no midi or Audio I/O via usb - and indeed any activity on the keyboard or controls are locked out while the Fusion is connected to a computer. If you want to use the Fusion as a Midi Keyboard, you can of course, using a 3rd party Interface, via the conventional Midi In/Out/Thru sockets on the back
Hope that helps . . .
