first gig with the fusion

Post by jeebustrain »

I sat in with this tech/death metal band last night. I had to learn their set over this week (just met the guys on tuesday). It was in a pretty big room, one of the bigger clubs in St Louis (Pop's if you are from around here). My programmed 808 bass drop (in the new sounds section) KILLED. I had to do some on the fly adjustment because the first time I kicked it off during soundcheck, it shook the entire place. Literally.

I started out intending to use my Motif and the Fusion, but I ended up just using the Fusion for everything. I used a lot of Mellotron strings/choirs, a lead tone I'd made, the 808, a distorted Rhodes I made, and that awesome Scratch patch provided by the Hollow Sun guys.

It was kinda fun. I usually don't play music like this, but it was a nice little diversion. Anyway, here are some pics.

haha... not with these guys. They're nice guys, but I have grown out of this music a bit. Maybe 10 years ago when I was 19, but this stuff is just too loud. Plus, they don't like ripping keyboard solos, so what the hell is the point? :P

My regular band is actually playing the same venue next monday. We're opening up for classic Industrial/Electronica band My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. Nowadays I'm primarily the drummer in the band, but I do a bit of the keyboard duties with an M-Audio Axiom49 Controller, running softsynths from my laptop. It would be, though, the perfect opportunity for a Fusion rack (or even a 49 key version), though. Part of me wishes I could shrink the 88 down and take it wherever I go. I just love it so much.

heh, probably pretty close. Nothing against the guys in the band, but they seem to attract the slightly rural tweeker/meth head crowd.

I think Larry the Cable Guy is checking out the caboose of the mother-daughter team up front. Interesting mix of crowd.....

I almost went to that show (Thrill Kill Kult) - I know a couple of those guys. I would have seen your band and not even known it. I ended up not being able to swing it. How was the show?

heh, you definitely wouldn't have known it was me, since I was drumming at the time (though I do have a small 49 key controller behind my kit). The gig went pretty well. There was a pretty good turnout, and everyone said that the sound was pretty good and even. I hung out with a couple of the Thrill Kill guys (and girl) beforehand and they were really cool people.

this is my Glitch Factor rig
