Hi From Holland

Post by Frankey »

Hi I''m Frankey and like to introduce myself a bit.

Married, one kid (daughter)
like movies, games, graphic novels, cooking, going out, friends

Have just bought a fusion 8hd and having difficulties programming it. (for one: can't loop a song)
I used to play on a keyboard attached to a pc with Reasons running on it, but I wanted all in one. So people on an other forum recomended this machine.

I hope you can help me with some prloblems I have with this machine, because the guides don't give me much advice.

And besides: I am a complete amature, so I think I do something wrong, I hope 8)

I will ask my questions in other sections of this forum.

Thanks for your attention. Bye.

Frankey

P.s. perhaps someone in Holland can give me a quick beginnerscourse? :)

Welcome. Perhaps you can give us more detail on what you are trying to do. Once you understand the machine as a whole it gets really easy. Take it slow and at a step at a time. We're all here to help so don't be afraid to ask specific questions. You can do looping but we need to know how you want to loop so please let us know.

Welcome, Frankey.

To loop a SONG, just press the EDIT key by the data wheel. Then press the upper soft-button on the left, next to Song. Then on the right soft-button, press General. I like to abbreviate the instructions this way:

SONG/EDIT
/Song/General

On this page, you can now set up your looping parameters. Select "Enable Song Loop."

Next, you need to tell the Fusion what you want to loop. What measure do you want your loop to start, and when to end?

And that's it! While in SONG mode, you will be using the Play/Stop/Rewind/FFwd transport buttons a lot, of course. The Locate button (LOC) will also be very handy. In fact, the LOC button has many other uses besides setting up to 16 cue points in your song (each Locate Point is labeled A-P, set by using SET LOC button to mark the current measure you're at as another Locate Point)*. For an example of a most useful shortcut, pressing the Locate button at the same time as the Rewind button (LOC + REW) will bring you back to the beginning of the song:

LOC + REW = 1:00.000 (beginning measure of song)

Keep in mind that if you want to loop measure 1 thru 8, you are really only looping measures 1:00:00 thru 7:04.479. There are 480 ticks per beat, 0 thru 479. Use the Data Wheel to spin to different values, and also you can use the INC/DEC buttons by the Wheel. For example, a quick way to get to 7:04.479 is to use the Wheel to get to 8:00.000, then one click of DEC to bring it back to 7:00.479. Another useful shortcut is to press the INC and DEC buttons at the same time to call up the default value for that parameter:

INC + DEC = default (often ZERO)

You can also separately loop different Tracks in your Song, besides just looping the whole Song itself. This is useful for looping a 4 or 8 bar drum groove while you record longer tracks with other instruments. To do this, go to the Track page by pressing the upper left soft-button while in Song Edit mode:

SONG/EDIT
/Track.... Enable Loop
.... Loop Start
.... Loop End

For now, that should be enough to get you started. Any questions, feel free to ask. Welcome again and good luck with good times on your Fusion.

* note: to use your LOC points by simply pressing LOC + [A-P], you first need to make sure the Fusion's mode for the A-P and 1-8 buttons are set to SELECTION (and not ENABLE). This is done by going to GLOBAL mode, selecting Settings then Options:

GLOBAL
/Settings/Options.... (Edit) A-8 = Selection

Thanks for your replies.

But it doesn't work here.

I don't have a "Enable Song Loop." on that page.

I have:

Tempo
Time signature
length
Current LOCATE point
Enable mixer automation

Do you know what's wrong?

Thanks again!!!

Wow, that's not right! Check which OS version you have... sounds like you need to update it.
GLOBAL
/System/Info

Boot version 1.10
creation date: 11/09/05

OS version: 1.24
creation date" 11/13/06

Sound ROM version : 1.24
Below is a link to download the OS 1.24 image file. There also should be instructions on how to do it using a compact flash card.

Hi Psionic,

I think you're right.

My system is:

Boot version 1.00
creation date: 08/05/05

OS version: 1.03
creation date" 10/11/05

Sound ROM version : 1.05

So that's pretty old.

I'm going to update the system and let you know.

Thanks, man

Hello, can somebody tell me how to update my os?

I have downloaded the 'Fusion_Image_v124.bin' file on my desktop (PC with XP) and I have a 64 mb flashcard.

I can't find anywhere how to update my Fusion and I'm afraid to wreck the fusion.

Thanks in advance!

First things first, backup your Fusion HD onto your computer's HD. Always a good idea to backup.

To do this, connect a USB cable from the Fusion to your computer. When the computer recognizes the Fusion, then from your computer navigate to the Fusion's HD and copy the whole Volume to its own folder on your computer. Done.

To upgrade your OS, put the .bin OS file onto the CF card using your computer. Then insert the CF card into your Fusion. Then go here:

GLOBAL/System/Upgrade... Select Device: CF card

Then just hit Load. Voila!

You should then have the "Enable Song Loop" function, along with a bunch of other goodies...

Hi Psionic, thanks for your help.

But it doesn't seem te work:

When I copy 'Volume' to my powerbook it's only 116 kb

And my flascard is 64 Mb, wich is not enough for the Fusion_Image_v124.bin file

And when I opened the fusion HD I see this doc allready on that drive.

But when I want to upgrade from the fusion HD (changing device from CF card to hard Drive) it tells me: Load firmware from hard Drive. Please copy wirmware to Hard Drive first, then press [ok] to start loading.

And when I hit [ok] it gives a error (0x01000008) Cannot find valid firmware.

What to do? I'm beginning to get a bit stressed for I'm no computerwizzard.

Please help!!!

Hmm, it seems like you're doing the correct steps. Let me ask you this -- is the Fusion OS file surely .bin (and not .zip)? I have a copy of the OS 1.24 as a zip file, which is only 56MB, and then when I extract it, it is about 65 MB as a bin file.

Before you try buying a larger CF card, maybe you should try to copy the OS bin file from your PC onto the Fusion's HD. Then try again to load the OS from the Fusion's Global menu.

Aside from that, the only thing I can think of is maybe your OS bin file is corrupted. Try downloading it again. Maybe even try downloading another OS version, like 1.2 or something, and see if you can install that correctly. Good luck.

Well, thanks for all your support, but it doesn't seem to work.

I've given the Fusion back to the shop and bought an hammered keyboard with a saffire pro 24 DSP and an upgrade to Reason 4.0 on my powerbook.

Again thank you all for the support and good luck and vabrations on your Fusions
