DIY Fusion power supply

Post by Jokeyman123 »

I have just noticed-a user on the Alesis Fusion Facebook group has designed and built an alternative power supply from what looks like a laptop power supply! Why this is good news-it is small enough to fit in and replace the existing power supply. I requested at the Facebook group he post his info here-There were not too many details as to how he managed all the proper voltages-he claims he used the 12v rail on the supply for the screen instead of 16v and it still worked. AFAIK, if it is a laptop PSU-these typically put out only one voltage from one barrel plug and it is usually 16 to 19V DC. Hoping he will send some more details.

Yeah, I messaged him on FB and we had quite an exchange . . . .

He said he was happy to give the details and description. . . . .

he's sure he IS actually a member HERE and in the FusionClub. . . . . .

Would be useful, even essential to know which PC PSU he used, so it can be bought before it disappears . . .

Let's hope he'll be along soon.

Good Chris...glad you did that. I am (only guessing so far) thinking there are so-called "universal" laptop power supplies-small brick style, that have a switch to change from 12 up to 19V DC. I have 2 of these I've needed with various laptops I've used and disposed of over the years. It might be that these types of supplies, which are still pretty readily available at amazon, eBay etc. are what he has been able to use in his Fusion. I will be very interested to see how he did this and with what type of supply.

On a sidebar-I have been communicating with a tech repair company in my other post-they are willing to try and troubleshoot my defective Fusion mainboards without sending the entire keyboard-I have sent jesse's diagram showing what the PSU voltage rails are supplying along with pics of the factory supply and the mainboard. They are willing to use their initial fee towards the repair and seem to be confident they can diagnose and repair these at the component level, including the one with the bad CF card slot and the other with the non-functioning voice channel, which based upon my past research through posts, happened to quite a few Fusions and is probably due to a defective Altera (the actual "ASICS" chip or Texas Instruments chips that Alesis used on these mainboards. If i can get 2 perfectly functioning spare mainboards out of these repairs, I will be thrilled since these are disappearing, or already have completely disappeared, I haven't checked recently.

No not Iridium, I have not been familiar with those posts but looks pretty knowledgeable.

This company has a post on eBay listing a repair for the Alesis Fusion and many other workstations new and old. I sent a PM about this to you and Chris, guess it didn't go through. Calling themselves "healingmass". Have a good bunch of reviews though. I am about to send both my malfunctioning mainboards, see what they can do with these.
