so a while back i constructed "rotating stands" for my 88-key triton and 61-key karma (in imitation of the one Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater uses). now with my fusion, I wanted to see if it would fit on either stand. because it's so sleek and small (even in the 8HD model) it actually fit better on the smaller i stand i built for the karma. although the pictures and movie below show no cables attached, i have found that simply letting the cables hang down works just fine (they move out of your way as you rotate the keyboard). i've been playing live like this for over a year a now and could never go back to not moving around when i play. i think the fusion looks pretty sleek and futuristic on the stand! just thought i'd share.
and to watch a short movie of it rotating, click here: Fusion Rotating Movie ...it's a .mov file, fyi.
Be careful. You may give Alesis or another company an idea to patend your stand. You better beat them to the punch. Just a suggestion because I like it very much.
actually i'm not the first one to make something like this. jordan rudess, of dream theater, uses much cooler stands made by Patrick Slaats, a guy out of the Netherlands, though I don't think he makes them anymore
i'm still shocked no company has made one, but there are a lot of homemade that i've seen people post pics of...but no one really makes them!
...it doesn't look so difficult. That triangular column is available in different lengths (It's used commonly for lighting gantries - Look here - scroll down to see individual lengths and accessories) and any fairly competent fabrication shop would be able to add a stable base and a free rotating top.
I have to say I'm not sure how I'd feel playing away on keys that could spin around. Cool stage effect, but I just get the feeling if I were thrashing away on a piano, or organ solo or something, it would really distract me and put me off!

yeah, i'm sure i could make it more elaborate, but for what i need, my stand works fine
as for playing with it, you get used to it in a few days. now i can't even imagine playing a show on a regular stand. it's (surprisingly) very natural and intuitive to be able to rotate, even when things get intense.

Actually KE is one of my keyboard heros! And as it happens we have tickets to see him in London NEXT WEEK - Whoo Hooo!
Interesting fact - Keith was a long time user of the Alesis QS8, though from the looks of his touring rig for this tour he's been seduced to the dark side by a certain Japanese manufacturer and their £5000 workstation.

I must be old; I didn't realize Jordan Rudess had shaved his head! I met him 25 years ago when he worked for the Korg Booth @ the Winter NAMM in Anaheim. Simply an amazing player [and "finger drummer" too!].....
Here's how I remember him.....

-Talk about getting old?! These were from those days... I blocked out info on one card (although, I'm sure it's defunct). Keyboard Wizard was Jordan's show. (Mozart displaced in time?) D
